The interview speaks about my background, the learning ground I had in network marketing, and what lead me to a team of thousands and an income capping $1m a month.

Rachel Jackson – who goes by “RJ”  is a 5 Star Ambassador in ViSalus, the highest paid female in the company at only 27 years old. Rachel, with the full support of her husband Josh, is based in Houston, Texas, USA, where they raise and show English Bulldogs in their spare time. As of April 2012 her monthly income is $95,000+ with 6,000 active promoters and $4 million monthly revenue.

A college drop out, RJ spent her early job years working retail jobs and running a part-time business as a nutritionist. It was at the age of 21 when Josh introduced her to the direct selling industry.  Her first 4.5 years in the industry were of moderate success, a “learning ground” as she called it. She settled & joined ViSalus in February 2011.

RJ’s success was rapid and viral, with no team transition, she hit the top of the compensation plan in 65 days, and 5 Star Ambassador in 7 months earning a $250,000 bonus paid out over 18 months. Within 13 months of getting started, they crossed the Million-A-Year mark.

I have to give so much thanks to God for placing this opportunity in our lap. In fact he had to hit me over the head with it 15 times in 6 months… (a cosmic 2×4) before I finally woke up and really GOT IT.

Affectionately called “Mamacita” by our team, Patty struggled for years with me in network marketing, never making more than $1,200-$1,400 a month.

What I want to do over the next few weeks is take you on a journey of all that
has happened in my life since February 24th. There will be major shifts and focus on my brand and the direction of my marketing and content. Don’t worry – nothing insanely drastic (no, I will not be vlogging about Underwater Basket Weaving)… but a more specialized content.

Mistake #1. People Not Linking Their Profile Work Info to Their Personal Fan Page

Step One: You must have a fanpage. To start a FB fanpage to go http://www.facebook.com and Create a Fan Page. Connect the two together that way when you’re logged in, you can access and edit both pages.

Step Two: Go to your profile and click “edit profile” right under your header information. This link is also located right above your 5 banner pictures that stream across your profile.

Step Three: Click “Education and Work” tab under your Edit Profile screen and add a project. If you are currently linking to a page that is not your own or some random FB community, then just delete the existing linkage.

Step Four: Type in the name of your fanpage to link it as a new “project”, also add details like your blog or lead capture page for your website. You can change the title of your position to self-employed or CEO, many just leave it at “Works at…”

Techie Tip: If for some reason your fanpage doesn’t want to show up – maybe it’s too new, or FB just doesn’t like you (J/k!) here’s a tech guide that can get you to your promiseland.

Mistake #2. People Using Their Profile/Page as a Spam Board

Stop, I repeat, STOP posting your company link every 10 seconds on your status update. First off, it may work for a couple of times or as you add new friends, but soon people are going to get sick of it. Do you notice that people never comment on these posts? Its because it’s SPAM. If you are going to post something about your business, I recommend being vaguely specific.

Here’s what’s worked well for me:

Strategically posting a testimonial (maybe even a picture like a before/after) for my products and sharing 3-4 stories. Since my product is weight loss, this is super easy… but every product and service has results. Don’t mention the company name NOR linkdrop. Ask people to PM you for details. Do this 2-3x per week, no more, no less. Each time I do this I generate 5-15 leads. That’s 15-45 brand new people to talk about your business and products too.

Mistake #3. People Posting Erratically or Infrequently & Selfishly

Sooner or later most people will “trim down” or do a Facebook friends/fanpage cleaning spree. And often the first people to go are those that are not extremely active on Facebook. This doesn’t mean posting 395835 times a day either. I usually post strategically 3-4x per day, and I try to diversify WHAT I post. Maybe a link, maybe a status update, maybe a video, then a picture. But I don’t just focus on my own posts, I try my best to be very interactive and comment on what my friends are doing as well. This may take 30 minutes twice per day… but as a fulltime networker who generates dozens of leads from FB every day/week, it’s a good use of time.

Here’s a tip, set it in your daily routine that when you get up and check your email and Facebook that you post something enlightening, inspiring, a new piece of a content, a blog post you liked, or a video you watched. After posting this, go on 5-10 of your friends statuses and posts (you can find these on your Facebook Newsfeed) and comment/link their stuff. This will start to generate interaction and drive more views/eyes back to your content.

They make excuses, try to reinvent the wheel, create training systems and attempt to automate motivation and team building. But true success and momentum in a network marketing business revolves around your OWN productivity and results than it does with the people on your team. Seem far fetched? Hear me out…

A Network Marketing Business’s Growth Relies on The Pace of the Leader

In a network marketing business, “the pace of the leader is the pace of the pack” have you ever noticed that when you are in a “dry slump” in your business… your team tends to be as well? But as soon as you break that hump your team awakens with you? I don’t know how they know, but they know. So continue spending 80% of your time prospecting and recruiting so that you are setting a good example to follow.

Creating momentum in a network marketing business is all about the NEW. It’s not about the old reps, the vets, and the seasoned superstars…it’s about diving down and finding those brand new distributors and helping them earn their first few paychecks.

When your team sees that your constantly promoting, even as an established leader, it provides great authenticity and integrity to your messaging. If you are telling them to go out and prospect and promote to build a network marketing business but you aren’t doing the same… how can they trust you? Remember, your reps will do what you DO, not what you SAY! So lead by example and keep accountable to the 80/20 rule!

Here is where you want to spend 80% of your time:

- Building your list

- Making contacts

- Inviting to presentations

- 3 Way Calls

- Following up & Enrolling

Thirdly, to provide the best amount of support and team feel, create a community (Facebook Groups are my choice and favorite) that allows your team members that are stretched all across the country or globe to connect, make friends, keep accountable and relish in victories.

Building a network marketing business doesn’t have to be difficult…but if your check isn’t growing… it’s important to look at YOUR OWN production before blaming anybody else in your organization.
